Teaching and Chemistry Interests
I am very interested in authentic, hands-on learning opportunities for students, specifically through the use of the storyline process. Introducing students to a phenomenon and utilizing their questions to guide classroom activities has helped me improve my teaching practice and I continue to seek out ways to provide students with these authentic opportunities. I am also interested in incorporating authentic engineering tasks into chemistry instruction as a way to encourage students to apply their chemistry knowledge in new and novel ways.
Why I Want to Serve
As a middle school science teacher, I know how important it is to have access to quality educational materials and resources. AACT provides teachers with a wide range of student and teacher resources including webinars, lesson plans, and online interactives. I participate in numerous science and education networks and would like to be able to continue to advocate for AACT resources in a more official capacity. I enjoy writing lesson plans and blog posts to provide middle level chemistry teachers with new ideas for chemistry instruction. I have also led educational webinars, presented at conferences, and have experience designing teacher workshops. I would like to use these skills to help more teachers learn about AACT and to provide support for the middle level educators who are AACT members. I would like to help strengthen connections between current AACT middle school teachers and serve as the representative voice for middle school teachers as part of the AACT Governing Board.
