Project: The Evolution of Materials Science in Everyday Products

In this project, students will be able to understand the progression of development of an everyday product and display their knowledge through a creative video. They will investigate the history and chemical composition of the product through the present day. The students will then suggest an innovation about how the product can be altered in the future to improve society.

  • Review, Culminating Project | High School

Lesson Plan: AP Chemistry Big Idea Review

In this lesson, students will complete a review of all of the AP Chemistry Big Ideas and Learning Objectives using questions targeting each learning objective. This lesson is based on the AACT AP Chemistry Webinar series: What’s the Big Idea? Last Minute AP Chem Review and What’s the Big Idea? AP Chemistry Review Redux.

    Project: Icosahedron!

In this project, students will create an icosahedron, a twenty sided ball, to present information about a topic. The icosahedron can be used for any topic that would require the allocation and presentation of material.

  • Culminating Project | High School

    Activity: Understanding Renewable Energy

In this project, students will conduct research in order to become an “expert” on a specific type of renewable energy source. Students will produce a media presentation and a poster board as well as participate in a symposium focused on renewable energy sources.

  • Culminating Project | High School

    Activity: Video Project

In this activity, students will solve a multistep problem in a video so others can learn how to solve it.

  • Observations, Introduction, Elements, History, Periodic Table, Atoms, Model of the Atom, Culminating Project, Matter, Conservation of Matter | High School, Middle School

Activity: Is a Picture Worth 1000 Words?

In this activity, students will learn about early chemistry discoveries through a textbook reading as well as from a cartoon.

  • Identifying an Unknown, Culminating Project, Classification of Reactions | High School

    Lab: The Culminating Unknown

In this lab, students identify an unknown from a list of 12 possible compounds by designing a procedure and using evidence to prove their claim. They must draw from knowledge gained throughout the year to properly develop a procedure to identify the unknown.

  • Culminating Project | High School

    Activity: Stop-Motion Video

In this activity, students will pick a concept to bring to life in a stop-motion video.

  • Culminating Project | High School

    Activity: Second Semester Projects

In this project, students will choose a topic and express their knowledge using a medium that they feel suites their style.

  • Lab Safety, Culminating Project | Middle School, High School

    Activity: Dangerous Goods Specialist

In this activity, students will take on the role of a Dangerous Goods Specialist for a large chemical company. In this role, students will research a specific commercially available industrial chemical looking at both the properties of the compound as well as how can they safely ship the chemical to a buyer in a cost effective and timely manner.

  • Interdisciplinary, Culminating Project | High School

    Activity: Chemistry Close Read

In this activity, students will learn through actively reading real-world chemistry articles. The close-read strategy is used as a way of enhancing student understanding and engagement by slowing down the reading process without detracting from the current curriculum.

  • Culminating Project | Middle School, High School

    Activity: 24-7 Lecture

In this activity, students must demonstrate their understanding of a topic by making a 24 second video and summarizing the concept in seven words.

  • Review, Culminating Project | Middle School, High School

    Project: 21st Century Elements

In this project, students will learn the importance of the elements in our lives. The students will research one chosen element and create a website, a digital comic strip, or a video to explain the important properties of the element as well as why the element is so important to our lives.
