Is water wet?

Started about 5 years ago by James Stewart.

Students love asking their chemistry teacher this question lately, it seems. One of the teachers next to me has a different answer then I do, and we recently had a debate in front of some students about it. I go me thinking that having students debate this question after discussing intermolecular forces would be a fun wrap-up activity.

What's your answer to this fun question?

I use the definition of "wet" (posted below) to make my point. Since water fits both descriptions, water is clearly wet. adjective 1. covered or saturated with water or another liquid. noun 1. liquid that makes something damp.
