Video Chat Week of 3/6?

Started about 7 years ago by Amber Carr.

Hello Everyone! I think that it would be great if we could "meet" soon to discuss the types of information and lessons that you might be interested in incorporating into your curriculum, and which might excite your students. I think that it would be easiest to do this via video chat if we can schedule a day and time that works for everyone. I am pretty swamped until 3/5, but I can make myself free during the week of 3/6, with the exception of the morning of Thursday the 9th from 9 am - 1 pm PST. If you reply with some days and times that would work, I can coordinate. I am open to early mornings, late nights and weekends, so don't feel like this has to be during business hours (I know that all of you probably have packed schedules and I would like to do my best to accommodate you). Also, if you would like to share your course syllabi so that I can take a look at what you have planned for the rest of the term and come up with ideas that might fit well with your existing curriculum, please feel free to send them along to my email at amber.carr@gmail.com . I hope that we can meet up soon!

No, we haven't rescheduled yet. My schedule is open pretty much all next week, though, in case anyone is interested in chatting.

    Did we reschedule this yet?

Since 2/3 of you can't make it, I think that it would be best if we reschedule this meeting for another time. It would be helpful if you could email me with a general idea of your availability over the next few weeks. In the meantime, I am going to work on putting together a few lessons on cool applications of polymeric materials (including biomimetic proteins and fully recyclable polymers). I will also put together some prior lessons that I have used on protein structure and function. If there are any other specific areas where you would like to bring real-world applications to your students, definitely let me know!

With the time change, I am now 3 hours behind EST, so I will sadly not be able to attend the chat.  That will be 4 pm out here, which is the same time as my appointment.  Darn time zones... you will have to send an update on what you all worked on.  I am sorry.

The video chat is tomorrow, Wednesday the 15th, at 7 pm EST, so you didn't miss it, Brandy! Congratulations to you and Jodi for having your students do so well at the Olympiad. If you could send me your Skype usernames before tomorrow's chat, that would be great. I look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow! Best, Amber

Brandy, how did your team do at the State Sci Olym event? We won our first medal at the state level! (10th place, but we will take it!).

I just remembered this morning that we were going to have a video chat. I am so sorry that I forgot. We had science Olympiad this past weekend and advanced to State! What did I miss? Brandy

Hi Everyone, I'm just confirming our virtual meeting this coming Wednesday at 7 pm EST. If you could send me your Skype usernames, that would be great. I'll figure out how to set up a group chat there. I can't wait to meet everyone! Best, Amber

As I was thinking about this 7 pm EST, I realize that would only be 5 my time.  My dentist appointment is at 4, so I'm going to guess that I will be a little late to the chat...sorry

Sounds good Amber, I am good with either or (I have never used GChat, but I'm sure it would be easy to figure out).

Thanks for your replies! It sounds like 7 pm EST on the 15th should work for everyone, so let's plan for then. I am open to Skype or GChat, so please let me know if you have a preference either way. And if anything changes with your availability, please let me know. I am thinking of creating a mini-curriculum (four lessons or so) on cool materials science applications of polymer chemistry, so I will give you an update on that when we talk.

I work until 4pm so the best time for me, since I pick up my children, would be around 7 eastern time.

That would work great, I'm open to whatever time works for those who are in school (since I'm on break).

Hi Everyone, Sorry I have been so busy I keep running out of time to stop by and check in with everyone. The 15th in the evening should be fine, what time? Jodie, I help with all the science olympiad events. It is very overwhelming at times (right now is one of them). I am super stressed. Last year we did not do all of the events because not enough students (we are a small school), this year we have two teams. The building events are the most stressful part of the events.

Jodi and Brandy, would the evening of Wednesday the 15th work for you? It seems like that could probably work for Lacy. I can be free pretty much anytime. I am thinking that evenings will be best for all of you, so maybe sometime between 4 and 10 pm EST? Please let me know what might work.

Wednesday 3/8 works for me. I am EST... so keep in mind I am 3 hours later than PST.

Brandy, You do the olympiad too? We will have to discuss... what events do you help out the most in? It's such an overwhelming event - like I don't know anything about invasive species!!! I usually am helpful in Chem lab, Forensics, and write it do it. -Jodi

The video chat idea is a great one, I know this is where schedules get crazy (of course the following week March 11-19 is my spring break).  I am not going anywhere far, but my father is coming down to do hiking, maybe a trip to grand canyon, and spring training games.  I would say the best chance to get me would be an evening  video chat.  If you go ahead and schedule it, I will do my best.  I think Wednesday night would be the best bet that I will be home as I have a dentist appointment.  Topics I have left include: Gases, Solutions and Reaction Rates, and acid bases.

Thanks for your reply, Brandy! I am free the following week, so that would work for me with no problem. Let's see if it works for everyone else.

Hi Amber, I think this is a wonderful idea, but the week of the 6th is a crazy week because we have Science Olympiad that weekend (11th). The next week would work in the evenings except for Tuesday's. Looking forward to chatting! Brandy
