In this project, students will create an icosahedron, a twenty sided ball, to present information about a topic. The icosahedron can be used for any topic that would require the allocation and presentation of material.

    • Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information


By the end of this project, students should be able to

  • Obtain information about a specific topic.
  • Present information about the topic using the twenty side of the icosahedron.

Teacher Preparation: 15 minutes

Lesson:1 hour


  • Poster board or cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Decorating material: crayons, markers, colored pencils, craft paper, glitter, etc.


  • No specific safety precautions need to be observed for this activity.

Teacher Notes

  • I have used the icosahedron to create “Element Balls” and to create “Review Balls”. Below you will find the project hand out for each. The icosahedron project can be applied to a wide range of topics.
  • It helps to have a picture or a physical example of what the icosahedron should look like when presenting this lesson. I always start with a few sitting on my desk for reference.
  • The balls can be made out of any paper, even regular printer paper, but they are not sturdy. A normal poster board or cardstock work best.
