Popular Resources for Teaching Chemical Reactions

By AACT on December 11, 2025

This article highlights some of the most popular resources for a Chemical Reactions unit. For more ideas, visit the chemical equations unit plan.

The top resource used by teachers in a unit on chemical reactions is the Physical versus Chemical Changes Challenge. A great way to review the differences between chemical and physical changes, students compete in a mock gameshow to see who has the most knowledge of the difference between these changes!

Our second most popular resource is the Classifying Reaction Types lab. In this lab, students will carry out seven reactions and classify their reaction types. They will make observations, predict products, and balance the equations that represent the chemical reactions that are occurring.

The last popular resource this article will highlight is the Milk of Magnesia demo. Teachers can use this demo to teach signs of a chemical reaction, kinetics, equilibrium, and more!

We hope that these activities can help you to reinforce several of the topics covered in a unit on chemical reactions. Most of these lessons were made possible by great teachers who shared their own resources. We need your help to keep the collection growing. Do you have a great demonstration, activity, or lesson related to this topic that you would like to share with the community? Please send it along for consideration.
