Solubility, Concentration, Conductivity, Stoichiometry, Equilibrium Constants | High School
In this lab, students will predict and measure the relationship between the conductivity of a solution of calcium hydroxide and the mass of substance added to it. From the relationship, students will determine solubility and Ksp of calcium hydroxide. Ksp will be calculated using the molar concentration of ions in the solution and the equilibrium expression for the dissociation of calcium hydroxide.
Covalent Bonding, Ionic Bonding, Conductivity | High School
In this lab, students will analyze the conductivity of several common household solutions using a light emitting conductivity diode tester to determine if the solution is a strong or weak electrolyte. Students will interpret the brightness of the lightbulb to determine the strength of the electrolyte. Students will also have an opportunity to consider the connection between conductivity and bond type during this lab.
Precipitate, Conductivity, Classification of Reactions, Chemical Change | High School
In this demonstration, students will observe a decomposition reaction that triggers a precipitate reaction that prevents a solution from conducting electricity.
